From Riomaggiore to Portovenere

Here we are at the limits of the territory of the Cinque Terre, but the hike from Riomaggiore to Portovenere is very popular, and a very interesting one. We ascend from Riomaggiore to the Montenero sanctuary, with its panoramic view; we reach then the coastal ridge, descending to the hamlet of Campiglia, from where we can have a glance over the spectacular area of Tramonti, that could be the target of a different hike. We continue alomg the ridge, along a rough and spectacular stretch, to the magnificent final descent to Portovenere, a town that is worth a visit. From Portovenere we must go to La Spezia by bus or by boat, when the service is working.

Meeting point: Riomaggiore (railway station, or a different place). On demand, also La Spezia or any other centre of the Cinque Terre or surroundings.

Duration: about 5-6 hours, plus the displacements from Portovenere. The participants must have their own food.

Effort: rather demanding, form the uphill gradient and the descent to Portovenere.

Difficulties: some very rough and slightly exposed stretches along the descent to Portovenere; steep descent stretches.

Period: year round.

Additional info
When touristic boats are operating, it is possible to end the days, is compatible with time schedules, returning by boat to La Spezia or to one of the Cinque Terre, excluding Corniglia. Otherwise, from Portovenere we reach La Spezia by bus, with an additional 15 minute walk to the railway station.
